Two Creative Ways to Glow
The Glow Explosion Spin Magic is really two projects in one, with a mobile option and a shadow-scene option to choose from. Whether you choose the mobile method or the shadow-scene option, both look wonderful when completed. With the mobile, kids color white pop-out shapes and clip them to the base unit using flexible, adjustable clips. These shapes then spin around like a mobile.

To create a shadow scene, kids color a background sheet and wrap it around the mobile base, sliding the sheet into the base's holders. Next, kids tuck black pop-out shapes into the background's special slits, forming a shadow scene that glows and spins slowly.

Construct the Spin Magic Together
Though the instructions are easy to follow, certain aspects of this kit make it well suited for parents and child to complete together. Our testers found the Glow Explosion markers require strong force to color effectively, so young children may require adult assistance. But once colored, the fun shapes are ready for the Glow Explosion Activator marker.

The Glow Explosion Activator marker applies a nontoxic coating that glows in the dark. The glow effect lasts for four hours and is most vivid in absolute darkness. Although the Spin Magic creates a short-term art display, the finished project can still provide children with a strong sense of accomplishment.

Art and Science Spin to Life
Not only does the Crayola Glow Explosion Spin Magic set make for a fun project, but it also offers educational opportunities. The pop-out shapes are thematic, including transportation, dinosaur, and space themes. Parents can help increase a child's interest and vocabulary by exploring how the objects within a theme are related. This kit also offers the opportunity to discuss the science of phosphorescence (why things glow).
